Most everyone is aware that the skin is the human body’s largest organ, they are also aware of the care it requires. Yet most people seem to neglect it, taking its youthful elasticity and health for granted. Skin, like the body’s other organs, deserves proper care and attention and, unlike other organs, it is usually the first thing people notice. Adequate skin care will help protect against life threatening skin cancers and disorders as well.

Eating healthy is one of the best ways to take of both your skin and body. Since what we eat is reflected in our skin, naturally a diet full of unhealthy items will lead to skin that appears old and sallow. For better looking skin, eat foods rich in vitamin A like dairy products such as yogurt. Fresh vegetables and fruit will have a rejuvenating effect as well if you consume them daily.

It is also crucial that you consume lots and lots of clean water. Water rejuvenates the body’s skin cells with nourishment and pushes out toxins. Drinking about eight glasses of water a day is an excellent way to improve the appearance and feel of skin. It’s also a fast fix, turning dried out dehydrated skin healthy again, almost overnight.

Enacting a daily cleaning regimen will also improve the appearance of your skin. Be sure that you end the day with a topical astringent and warm towel. Keeping your skin washed will decrease any buildup in your pores and help it to breath in the night. It is also critical that you thoroughly clean your face every morning prior to applying our make up.

Lessening the amount of sunlight you expose your skin to will also prove to be beneficial. The sun’s rays contain dangerous Ultra Violet rays which can damage your skin. Wear a hat when you go outside and apply generous portions of sunscreen to deter getting burned. Sunlight can dehydrate skin cells as well, so be sure to drink plenty of water during those hot summer months.

Moisturizing your skin will do wonders for it too. Rather than using one with oily scents, choose one that contains creams and essential vitamins instead. Apply the lotion all over your body several times a day for optimum results. Problem areas like knees and elbows should be regularly treated. This will keep your skin hydrated and moisturized.

Utilizing face masks will ensure that the delicate skin there is properly taken care of. These products are excellent in treating dry and damaged skin. They are also perfect for maintaining already healthy areas. Face masks can be mixed together with certain recipes or bought, pre-mixed, from any department store.

Last but not least is exfoliating. This simple exercise can yield dramatic results for dry and damaged skin. Exfoliating removes dirt and dead skin while revitalizing the area in general. As with the face masks, you can buy them at the store or use homemade remedies such as oatmeal or sugar. You should ex foliate once a day to keep your skin looking young and healthy.
