Yoga Holidays and Yoga Retreats – Frequently Asked Questions

You may have gone to a number of yoga sessions and have performed specific training courses, and this time you desire it a bit intense in your yoga training. Certainly, you’ve decided to set off for your forthcoming holiday – you’ll go over for some yoga program. But, hi there read this article! Below are some common questions pertaining to yoga holidays and retreats you have to think about prior to making the first move.

Question #1. Are yoga holidays and yoga retreats the same thing?

No. These things are slightly different although they both involve the practice of yoga. However, the distinction is not very clear, and even organisers and yoga teachers may not correctly name their trip. The difference really is the emphasis of the trip, the total feel and ambiance.

In most cases, a yoga holiday is mainly an activity holiday. The amount of time dedicated to yoga doesn’t usually exceed three hours daily – two classes a day (which are optional) with plenty of time to do other activities, relax and chill out. Therefore, the location of your yoga holiday needs to be suitable for this, so having a nice beach or other suitable attractions or activities in the area are a must. The ambiance should be relaxed, with plenty of opportunities to meet other people, who will most likely share some of the same interests as you.

On a yoga retreat, the schedule tends to be much more intense, with opportunities for meditation, silence and other similar activities, as well as yoga sessions. The ultimate focus will not be for you to enjoy your time away but to heighten your practice of yoga. And again, the location of your yoga retreat needs to be suitable, so a peaceful more remote location is probably best. Yoga retreats will usually be ‘Full Board’, with healthy, carefully prepared meals provided to fit in with the daily routine of yoga, meditation, etc.

Also, you will find a lot of serious yogis on vacation retreats with the complete feel that is quite serious and much less spare time. Except if you’re sure enough that yoga is something for you and also you have to move to the next step on your yoga practice, yoga holiday and not yoga retreat could be the most suitable option particularly if it’s your first time undertaking yoga far from home.

Question #2. Is it okay to have a buddy or a partner for a yoga vacation?

Generally, heading all by yourself to a yoga holiday isn’t truly an issue. In fact, a lot of individuals take part on several yoga class of their own. The downside of going without any buddy is the fact that you’ll likely be sharing the same room with a total stranger. Though at least you’ll come to know it, and like you they can share the same interest with yoga in so doing forming a brand new camaraderie with them throughout the yoga class.

To widen your options, there are several yoga venues that take guests who don’t have to join in with the yoga and on a yoga holiday with lots of other activities to enjoy, this could be a good solution. On a yoga retreat in a more isolated location, this may not be possible or a suitable option.

Question #3. What are the perfect destinations and the perfect time for this activity?

The practice of yoga requires the serenity and tranquility of its environment. There are many stunning places in the world that are perfect for the practice of yoga. You can find a great selection of yoga holidays and yoga retreats onw ww.relaxingyogaholidays.co.uk.

Question #4. What are the things to take on a yoga holiday or yoga retreat?

Get some time to determine if ever you may need yoga mats. Once you already have one, then it’s advisable to bring it with you. You also take some reading materials, yogic or whatever of your interest. Don’t ignore to have your practice clothes, of course!

I Slept In Michael Franti’s Bed

If you dig the vibe and music of Michael Franti & Spearhead, listen up. I’ve been a Franti fan since Everyone Deserves Music in 2003, and it’s no cheap thrill when I check into his new, green Soulshine Bali yoga retreat near the upcountry artist community of Ubud, in Bali, Indonesia.

The scenic Agung river and verdant rice terraces are the setting for Franti’s “villa, retreat oasis and cafe.” The first thing I notice, though, is the tranquility–especially striking after my short walk from Ubud, which is more overrun than ever by tourists since it was a primary setting in the film Eat Pray Love starring Julia Roberts. A pity, because it’s still a cool town.

I am welcomed with a refreshing glass of coconut water, then I join a vinyasa flow yoga class in a huge open-air studio. All limbered up, I take a dip in the infinity pool and chill out with a fresh organic salad and a pot of delicious Balinese coffee. It’s all included, and it’s all good. Almost before I realize it, the day has disappeared into the shadows.

After a Taoist meditation class, I drift up to the Sunset Room, a lovely perch from which to savor this perfect day. It’s the room that Michael sleeps in when he’s in town, but tonight it’s all mine. Franti groupies, take note–if the carvings on the teak headboard, dresser and wall ornaments are any indication, the man is gaga for geckos.

Franti collaborated on the creation of Soulshine with a longtime creative partner, Carla Swanson. She’s a filmmaker and editor who did many of Michael’s music videos and his moving pro-peace documentary, I Know I’m Not Alone. It was she who designed this yoga oasis and its beautiful grounds of organic tropical fruit trees (for the guests’ picking), ponds and guestrooms for up to 26 people.

Green building principles were followed during the retreat’s construction (example: reclaimed wood for all outdoor decking). Organic food is sourced from local farms and the retreat’s own garden, and there are organic cotton bed linens.

In addition to providing jobs for local Balinese, the retreat helps to support a local holistic school and the Bumi Sehat Natural Birthing Clinic (the mortality rate of mothers and newborns is shockingly high in Indonesia).

Do yourself a favor: dive bliss-first into all the soulfulness this place offers. My only disappointment about Soulshine? Not discovering it earlier.

Physiatrist Knows How To Apply Sports Medicine For Back Pain

Back pain is not restricted to particular age groups or a specific gender. What this means then, is that we have all had issues with back pain at some juncture in our lifetime. People’s back pains are caused by a number of factors. Fortunately however, there are also a number of available ways in which to treat all types of back pains that are caused by these several different factors.

The aim of physical therapy is to lessen back pains, improve on functioning, as well as to educate the patient as to how to maintain the exercises they need to do at home as well as to avoid back issues in the future.

If you are having lower back pains that have been lingering from between 2 and 6 weeks, or if you have been having lower back pains that keep coming back over and over again, then this is a good reason for you to visit your physical therapist. Some physical therapists may recommend that you come and see them earlier however; specifically if the pain is chronic and unbearable as there may be underlying issues that need to be addressed immediately.

Physical therapy comes in various forms or modalities. These modalities are inclusive of TENS units, Iontophoresis, heat/ice packs and ultrasound. There is also active physical therapy that includes back pain exercises. These are all used to recuperate the spine. A back exercise program usually comprises of back-strengthening exercises, stretching exercises, as well as low-impact aerobic conditioning.

These exercises can be done even by people that are always on the go. Many physical therapists give their clients home work which usually involves these exercises at certain time during their day. This helps them to heal faster, and get back to their regular activities in a shorter period of time. In addition, they go a far way in lessening your back pain. It is usually advisable that these exercises be done at the same time each day so as to get the body regularized and accustomed to them.

In order to strengthen your back to rid yourself of your back pain, a physiatrist uses exercises that should be done for between fifteen and twenty minutes. The exercises usually include active lumbar stabilization, among other appropriate exercises. Your low-impact aerobics which include swimming, walking and cycling should be undertaken 3 times per week for anywhere between thirty and forty minutes. They should be done on the days following the strengthening exercises; never on the same day.

Physiatrist is a person who can help you relieve the pain. See a physiatrist if you are experiencing it.
